研究指出,若給予維生素C缺乏的成人:每天攝取500毫克,持續2週,或給予每日建議量持續8週的時間,可以顯著增加跑步機運動的有氧能力;靜脈注射維生素C可以改善坐式生活老年人的內皮細胞功能,但是對於經過耐力運動訓練的老年人來說,增補維生素C並沒有顯著效果。 國際運動營養協會 (International Society of Sports nutrition, ISSN) 於2018的指引表示,營養狀態良好的運動員增補維生素C,並不會增加運動表現,但是在耐力運動前後,攝取500毫克的維生素C似乎可以降低上呼吸道感染的發生率。
